This error occurs because NetSuite requires billable expenses to be coded to either a Customer or a Project that's configured as billable to a Customer.

Solution

If Customers/Projects are being imported as tags:

1. Access the report via the Expensify website 

2. Click the cog icon on the left-hand side of the report:

3. Select the following options:

  • Layout: Breakdown by Group
  • Group by: Tag
  • Split report by: Billable

This will allow you to easily see which expenses are flagged as billable but don't have a valid customer tagged:

4. Click into each expense in the Billable section of the report and ensure that the Customer or Project tag field is present. If the field is showing, ensure that there aren't any violations and that a value has been applied to the field. 

If Customers/Projects are being imported as Report Fields:

In all likelihood, the report field does not contain a value, or the value is no longer synced with NetSuite. If there is no value applied, apply the correct coding and attempt the export again.

If there's a value in the field and no violation present, but the error persists, ensure your policy has been synced recently by going to Settings > Policies > Group > [Policy name] > Connections > Sync Now

Once the sync completes, head back over to the report, re-apply the value, and try exporting again. 

If there is no Customers/Projects field:

First, determine whether or not you should be tracking expenses as billable within Expensify. 

If not, head over to Settings > Policies > Group > [Policy name] > Expenses and switch Re-bill expenses to clients to Disabled

If you do need to track billable expenses, you'll need to enable either the Customers field or the Projects field (assuming you have Projects set up that are billable to a Customer in NetSuite) by going to Settings > Policies > Group > [Policy name] > Connections > Configure > Coding tab.
